A lot of feedback has been collected this week with an emphasis on integrating more visible elements of Maori culture.
The link between land (whenua) and water (wai) is highlighted and is of great significance in Maori culture: I looked up some research on it. Whakatauk is a Maori proverb with intellectual and cultural significance. Plaques can be used in the garden to share whakatauk in relation to nature, water and sustainability. Curved, flowing patterns, often painted red, white, and black, with some traditional patterns, can be used in rain garden paths or seating areas to symbolise the flow of water. Another suggestion gathered was that a Maori stone could be placed in the centre of the garden to symbolise the link between man and nature.
